BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — UPDATE #2 | The Logan Township Police Department has released more information regarding an incident in Altoona Saturday. According to a press release, the Logan Township Police Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Rosehill Drive for a report of a suicidal male. Police said that the male, identified as Tershar Miller, 28, displayed a handgun and made several comments indicating that he wanted to die and made threats of a shootout with police.

UPJ mourns passing of former standout wrestler Leo Feist

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is mourning the loss of one of its former standout athletes. Leo Feist, a former NCAA regional champion, passed away last Sunday at the age of 60. Feist, a Cambria County native, graduated from Conemaugh Valley High School and went on to become a four-year starter at UPJ. Feist was a member of the Mountain Cats' 1982 Regional Championship team.

Authorities ask for public's help to identify 'person of interest' in New Kensington fatal shooting

Authorities in western Pennsylvania are asking for the public's help in identifying a "person of interest" in a fatal shooting that occurred last week in the New Kensington area. Police say on Thursday, October 19, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Kenneth Avenue for a report of a victim with a gunshot wound. Investigators say the victim, identified as 31-year-old Troy Vickers Jr., was transported to a Pittsburgh-area hospital where he later passed away, on October 21st.

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The Centre County town of Boalsburg claims to be the birthplace of Memorial Day with the first memorial service dating back to the Civil War era. Boalsburg dates back to just after the Revolutionary War, when a member of the Boal family, a soldier, was given a parcel of land. When there was no money to pay soldiers back then they were given property. Initially the town did not the share Boal family name.

Local McDonald's owner donates $11K to charity

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — The owner and operator of 15 regional McDonald’s restaurants presented a check to the Ronald McDonald house for over $11,000 Thursday. Owner Joe Nyanko presented a check to the president of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mid-Penn at the East Plank Road location in Altoona. The money raised came from a campaign held earlier this year where ten cents from each Minute Maid frozen slushie sold in central Pennsylvania was set aside.

Officials confirm plan to bring Chipotle to Somerset County

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — The popular eatery Chipotle Mexican Grill will soon be coming to the Somerset area. Somerset County Planner Chadd Sines confirmed to 6 News that Chipotle would be one of three businesses that are set to open in the former Kings Family Restaurant in Somerset Township. A land-use permit for an LED lit sign has been approved for the North Center Avenue location. Sines did not know an opening date or what the two other businesses are.
