Penn State sorority loses recognition over alcohol violations

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Another Penn State Greek organization has lost its recognition. The Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority has lost its recognition until at least the spring semester of 2022 due to alcohol violations. University officials said the sorority's national headquarters conducted an investigation and decided to immediate close the Penn State chapter. Earlier this week, theZeta Psi fraternity was suspended for the same length after a hazing investigation. The Alpha Chi Omega sorority was suspended in March, also over hazing accusations.

1 injured in Christmas Day crash in Huntingdon Co.

SHIRLEY TWP, HUNTINGDON CO, Pa (WJAC) — According to a crash report from Huntingdon state police, 1 person was injured in a single vehicle crash that occurred Christmas Day. State police say that the crash occurred around noon on Christmas Day, along Extract Road in Shirley Township, when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle struck a mailbox, reentered the roadway and struck an embankment on the opposite side of the road, before finally overturning.

PA Fish and Game commissions warn of online scams

PA (WJAC) — Both the PFBC (Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission) and the Pennsylvania Game Commission are warning fishermen and hunters about online licensing scams that have recently been reported. According to a release, customers reported that they had purchased licenses through a third-party website that looked similar to the real Outdoor Shop, the PFBC and the Game Commission’s online purchasing portal, but never received a license. “The only proven, reputable and reliable methods for purchasing Pennsylvania fishing licenses and permits are through the PFBC’s online portal The Outdoor Shop or in-person from a retail license issuing agent,” said Bernie Matscavage, director of the PFBC Bureau of Administration.

The Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center says it will be operating on only solar power soon. Altoona man sentenced to max of 10 years after pleading guilty in drug death case, DA says

Altoona, PA (WJAC) — Authorities say an Altoona man has been sentenced to spend up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to his involvement in the fatal overdose of a 42-year-old man last March. David McCool was one of six individuals charged last November following an investigation into two separate fatal overdoses. On Monday, officials say McCool entered a guilty plea in his case and was sentenced to serve 3 to 10 years in prison.

Celebration of life for boy lost in Stonycreek river

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A birthday celebration for a boy who died in the Stonycreek river was held Sunday evening. Family looked back at the life of 10-year-old Dakota Locher. Authorities say Locher fell into the river after he dropped a toy into the water and was attempting to retrieve it. They say first responders found the boy in about 15 feet of water. Family of Locher said Sunday would have been his 12th birthday.
