ALBANY, N.Y. — Nicholas Higgins, of Albany, was sentenced to 23 years to life in state prison on Wednesday, the Albany County District Attorney's Office said. Cambria County, PA — Concerned residents and community members coming together in Jackson Township, after hearing about the possibility of the nearby elementary school closing. They say their mission is to let district board members know why they say doing this is not a good idea. This follows an overestimation on the taxable real estate at the Competitive Power Ventures Fairview power plant, in Jackson Township. Officials say the district collected taxes from the powerplant based on that estimate, leading to the district owing the plant almost $4 million over the next nine years.

Elk Co., PA (WJAC) — Police in Saint Marys say an Elk County man is facing new charges after federal investigators uncovered online chats detailing the sexual abuse of a toddler, according to a criminal complaint. Evan Gabor, 26, was charged in December after an investigation revealed that he was in possession of child pornography and had performed sexual acts with a dog. Now, police say Gabor faces new charges of sexual abuse, indecent exposure and indecent assault following an investigation by an undercover police officer in Wisconsin.

Johnstown city council met for a regularly scheduled meeting this evening. The potential construction of a non-congregate homeless shelter was once again on the agenda. The funding for the shelter would come from the city’s American Rescue Plan Act grant through the HUD Home program. The city received only one proposal that met the required criteria. That proposal was from Victim’s Services and was tabled at previous council meetings. Today, council voted to withdraw it.

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Centre County man accused of filming a Penn State student inside a bathroom earlier this year was sentenced Friday and given credit for time served. Police say Mark Williams, 52, was charged in February after he reportedly filmed a partially undressed, male student inside a HUB bathroom. The student later testified that Williams punched him in the face after being confronted about the alleged filming.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Pennsylvania man who authorities say killed his girlfriend in a Nevada desert has been convicted. A jury in U.S. District Court in Nevada on Wednesday found John Matthew Chapman, 44, guilty of one count of kidnapping resulting in death, court records show. He faces life in prison at a sentencing hearing scheduled for Aug. 2. Authorities did not release the woman's name. They say that after killing her in September 2019, Chapman pretended to be her on her Facebook messenger account and lived at her residence.
