Pitt script logo makes long-awaited return

PITTSBURGH -- What is old, is new again at the University of Pittsburgh. The Pitt Panthers' athletic department unveiled its new Pitt script logo Wednesday during a ceremony at the Petersen Events Center. The Pitt script logo was originally introduced by former football coach Johnny Majors in 1973, but it was phased out in 1996. It reappeared in 2014 on Pitt's football helmets and on Wednesday became the primary logo for all of Pitt's athletics teams.

Sheetz announces return of donut flavored beer 'Project Happy Hole-idayz'

PENNSYLVANIA — Gas station and convenience chain Sheetz has announced the return of their donut flavored beer, titled "Project Happy Hole-idayz." The pale ale includes notes of fresh baked donuts, vanilla frosting, graham crackers, honey, and malted barley. Each barrel of beer even includes one pound of glazed vanilla donut holes. This beer was first unveiled to the public last Black Friday, and is making a comeback this year. Four packs of sixteen ounce cans of Project Happy Hole-idayz will retail for $7.

Sigel man gets DUI after operating Amish horse and buggy in 'reckless manner,' police say

(WJAC) — Police say an Sigel man is facing drunk driving charges after reportedly operating an Amish horse and buggy in a “reckless manner.” According to the Brookville Police Department, 20-year-old Ray Byler faces a misdemeanor driving under the influence and was also cited for careless and reckless driving. Police say they were patrolling the area of Main Street Sunday when they passed an Amish horse and buggy.

Trio charged for scamming trucking companies of over $14K, troopers say

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Somerset County say three individuals are facing various theft-related charges after they allegedly scammed multiple trucking companies out of thousands of dollars. Police say the companies were attempting to purchase trucks from M & K Truck Centers in Somerset. Investigators say one of the individuals, 35-year-old Robert Croyle-Rummel, of Windber, was reportedly employed as a salesman for the business. According to the affidavit, troopers say Croyle-Rummel would allegedly instruct the companies to route their payment/deposit to one of two bank accounts, which reportedly belonged to his two accomplices, 31-year-old Matthew Weaver and 32-year-old Ashley Yourich, both of Johnstown.

Urgent call for community action to curb population surge

Spotted Lanternflies are wreaking havoc as one of the top invasive species in Pennsylvania. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the spotted lanternfly is a planthopper that’s native to east Asia. It was first discovered in PA in Berks County in 2014. Since then, it’s caused significant damage on the local environment as well as the economy. “They are quite invasive and quite dangerous to our fruit production," said Capri Stiles-Mikesell, the biosecurity educator at Penn State Extension.

1-104th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion deactivates

JOHNSTOWN - The 1-104th Aviation Attack Reconnaissance Battalion of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard will deactivate later this month. In its place will be another company of 10 aircraft that are currently stationed in Tennessee. One company of Apache aircraft will stay in the area, but will be under a different flag or name. They will be designated as C Company 151 Attack Battalion, with headquarters in South Carolina. There will be six H 64s in Johnstown under the new company, Charlie 151 Attack.
