JPD investigating late night rollover crash that injured 2

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Emergency officials in Cambria County say Johnstown police are investigating a late night crash that injured two people. Dale Borough fire officials say they were among several departments who were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Authorities say the crash occurred at the intersection of David Street and Messenger Street. Officials say both occupants were reportedly trapped inside the vehicle and crews had to remove the roof in order to extricate them.

Pennsylvania Senate approves earlier 2024 presidential primary

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania's state Senate approved a bill Wednesday to move up the state's 2024 primary election by five weeks to March 19, aiming to avoid a conflict with the Jewish holiday of Passover and give voters more of a say in deciding presidential nominees. The bill passed, 45-2, although it still requires passage in the state House of Representatives. Under the bill, the primary election would move from April 23 to March 19, the same primary date as in Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Kansas and Arizona.

PSP IDs victim of fatal crash in Barr Township

UPDATE | Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — State police have identified the victim of Monday's fatal crash in Barr Township. Investigators say 48-year-old Shawn Weiland, of Clymer, was killed when his SUV traveled off of Route 553, down an embankment and struck several trees. Authorities say the crash occurred just before 10 a.m. and closed the roadway for an extended period of time. Police say Weiland was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire crews battle barn fire in Centre County

PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Fire crews from across Centre County responded to a barn fire around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The fire happened at an Amish family farm on Long Lane in Millheim. A witness at the scene told 6 News he was cutting his grass when he saw the flames erupting from the barn. He also said animals were in the barn but were safely rescued. Millheim Fire Company officials said no one was injured in the fire.

Local dairy company recalls products due to improper pasteurization

SOMERSET CO, Pa (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is asking consumers to discard Moo Echo Dairy products purchased in Somerset and Westmoreland Counties, due to the products not being properly pasteurized, according to a release. Recalled products include the following items, which were either sold at the company's store along Glades Pike in Somerset, Dormina's Kitchen Cupboard in Stoystown, Davidsville Fuel or at Lapp's Family Market in Latrobe.

Mary S. Biesecker Library in Somereset receives over $200,000 grant

The Mary S. Biesecker Library in Somerset has received a $222,394.76 Keystone grant to improve the building. "The goal of this initiative is to increase the accessibility of the building," Morgan Simmons, IT and Facilities Coordinator Simmons hopes that the grant will help fund the installation of an elevator. Currently the building is accessible to all from the lower level, but once inside the only way to get to the main floor is stairs.

Pentz Run Youth Services breaks ground on new building for at risk youth

DuBois, PA — Pentz Run Youth Services in DuBois is a residential program for at risk disadvantaged youth. This afternoon they hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for their new facility in hopes of continuing that mission. Pentz Run Youth Services provides alternative living arrangement for kids throughout the commonwealth. "Those are the kids who might have some behavioral issues or some lack of supervision at home, maybe some truency issues," said Debbie Gregori, Executive Director of Pentz Run Youth Services.

School voucher program in jeopardy as PA House passes budget

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — The Pennsylvania House passed the budget on Wednesday evening in a 117-86 vote. The Senate now has to sign it before it will head to Governor Josh Shapiro's desk. But, a program that supporters said would have given students in Pennsylvania the chance to get a scholarship to leave an under performing school district and go to another appears to be on the cutting room floor. It comes after Shapiro on Wednesday announced that he would line item veto money in the Senate version of the state's budget that would have set aside $100 million for the program.
