Brothers give new life to Johnstown business that's been around for 60 years

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — For most of 2020 we stayed at home but things have started to slowly open back up including a new business in Johnstown. The building itself has been a part of the city for 60 years, but when it went up for sale two brothers bought it and added so much more. Chris Hogue and his brother thought the former Richland Lanes was right up their alley and have turned it into 814 Lanes and Games.

Hawks rally past Black Bears in Overtime

JOHNSTOWN -- The Johnstown Tomahawks used a big third period to come back and defeat the Maryland Black Bears in overtime. The Tomahawks struck early, with Christian Gorscak scoring his ninth goal of the season a little less than three minutes into the game. Then, less than 40 seconds later, Brendan Blair would net his third goal of the season to extend Johnstown's lead to 2-0. Maryland would answer back around halfway through the opening period, with Reid Leibold scoring his first goal of the year.

Steelers signing free-agent safety DeShon Elliott to 2-year deal

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — According to multiple reports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly signing former Ravens and Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott to a 2-year deal. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz says the deal is reportedly worth $6 million. Elliott was drafted by the Ravens in 2018 and spent three seasons on Baltimore's active roster. He also played one season each with the Detroit Lions and the Miami Dolphins. Over a span of five seasons, Elliott appeared in 57 total games, where he tallied 287 total tackles, three interceptions and 17 pass defenses.

Students create library boxes for Johnstown neighborhoods

JOHNSTOWN - Something as simple as a book can change a life. That's why students and teachers from Greater Johnstown High School are making sure books are accessible to all children in the city. They're putting library boxes in neighborhoods so kids can find a love for reading and be more prepared for school. Read, return, repeat. Children in Johnstown will soon be able to do just that with library boxes throughout the city.

BELLEFONTE -- Surveillance video played at a hearing for 18 Penn State fraternity members accused in the death of a pledge shows the sophomore in agony in the hours after falling down basement steps. Selections from the grainy footage start with 19-year-old Tim Piazza joining other pledges going station to station in a drinking "gauntlet" on Feb. 2, and proceed to show him staggering around the frat house, visibly drunk.

FL couple recovering after being thrown from home in storm

JAY, Fla. (WPEC) — A couple thrown from their home during Friday's storms in Florida is now recovering. The husband spoke to WEAR to describe the terrifying moments. The house was completely ripped apart, but the station was told the couple didn't suffer major injuries. Jessica and Mathew Nowling were hemmed in their home as hungry winds devoured everything in sight early Friday morning. My wife woke me up and she was like, 'Look at this thunderstorm that's coming in,'"

Harvard ignored suggestions for fighting antisemitism, House committee says: 'Moral rot'

WASHINGTON (TND) — Harvard University did not implement recommendations made by its Antisemitism Advisory Group (AAG) to combat prejudice against Jewish students, according to a House Education and Workforce Committee report released Thursday. Harvard allegedly neglected the AAG’s suggestions to review the university’s shortcomings in increasing “intellectual diversity” and combatting antisemitism at both the administrative and classroom levels. “The Committee’s report proves that former President Gay and Harvard’s leadership propped up the university’s Antisemitism Advisory Group all for show,” Rep.

King's Family Restaurants closing 5 locations, including Altoona

PITTSBURGH -- King's Family Restaurants has closed five of its western Pennsylvania restaurants. The Pittsburgh-area chain was founded in 1967, but was sold two years ago to Kelly Capital, a San Diego, California private equity firm. Nobody at Kelly or King's immediately responded to messages left Monday. The chain announced Sunday night that its restaurants in Altoona (6th Avenue), Bridgeville, Harmar Township, Imperial and Wexford were closing. That leaves the chain with 24 locations in western Pennsylvania and one in eastern Ohio.

Penn State women's volleyball ousts Syracuse, 3-0, to advance in tournament

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The No. 8 seed and seventh ranked Penn State women's volleyball team advanced to the third round of the 2018 NCAA Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0: 25-13, 25-20, 25-16 sweep of the Orange of Syracuse on Saturday evening in Rec Hall. The win was the 100th NCAA Tournament win for the Penn State women's volleyball program as well as the 100th career NCAA Tournament win for head coach Russ Rose, making him the first NCAA Division I coach to reach 100 NCAA Tournament wins.

Steelers' QB Ben Roethlisberger 'has some doubt' he'll play football again
