CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — With the weather warming up and counties beginning to reopen again, kids are itching to get back to playing their favorite sports and activities.
West Suburban Little League spent Saturday morning getting their fields prepped and ready to go for their players. The league says they will begin practices when Cambria County enters the green phase next week.
Players and coaches of the West Suburban Little League have been anxiously awaiting the day they can get their season started.
Two out of four inmates who escaped a Louisiana jail over Memorial Day weekend have been caught. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said Omarion Hookfin, 19, Avery Guidry, 19, Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, and Travon Johnson, 21, were able to escape through a weak portion on the perimeter of the fence at Parish Jail while participating in recreation time on the yard. During a news conference, Chief Jimmy Travis said jail officials did not know about the breakouts until they received a phone call from a family member Sunday afternoon about one of the escapees.
A 48-year-old Connellsville man has been charged with sexually assaulting three children years ago in Somerset County.
According to multiple probable-cause affidavits, Douglas Hostetler assaulted the children at different times dating back to as early as 1996 at Shade Township homes.
One of the victims also claims that Hostetler had abused her in a car and in Confluence Borough, according to one of the affidavits.
An investigation into the alleged abuse began in September after the now adult victims came forward with their stories, according to the affidavits.
According to officials at Greater Johnstown there has been just one resource officer in the district with four buildings. They said Greater Johnstown Elementary last having a resource officer in October 2022 and the high school has not had one since November.
These four officers will be employees of the school district according to officials rather than before having resource officers with the Johnstown Police Department at the schools.
The officers will be paid for out of the school’s general fund and officials said it will be able to be sustained.
Another Michigan dairy worker has been diagnosed with bird flu, the third human case associated with an outbreak in U.S. dairy cows, health officials said Thursday.
This person developed respiratory symptoms, unlike the two workers, who had only mild eye symptoms, health officials said. But the farmworker was quickly provided antivirals and is recovering from respiratory symptoms, Michigan health officials said.
The risk to the public remains low, although farmworkers exposed to infected animals are at higher risk, health officials said.
SOMERSET - Passavant Memorial Homes recently assumed operations of the Bedford-Somerset Developmental and Behavioral Health Services residential program, which includes eight community homes and 19 individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Passavant Memorial Homes was selected as the provider of choice in May from a slate of qualified agencies, and officially transitioned the consumers on Oct.1.
The transition was successful due to the collaborative efforts of Passavant Memorial Homes and Bedford-Somerset DBHS. Both organizations will continue to work together in support for providing quality services for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Bedford and Somerset counties.

In an Instagram post by the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, members of the Inner Circle gathered to announce the names of the boy and girl groundhogs.
Inner Circle members said in the post that they wanted to thank the community for their input and support in giving name suggestions for the pups.

NEW YORK CITY (TND) — A migrant fatally stabbed another migrant outside of a New York City shelter on Sunday after a "verbal dispute," according to the New York City Police Department.
Oscar Gonzalez is accused of stabbing Argeyeris Martinez near the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center in East Harlem. Gonzalez was charged with murder and aggravated criminal possession of a weapon. Both men lived at the shelter. The shelter is one of several New York City Mayor Eric Adams has used to house the nearly 200,000 migrants that have arrived since Spring 2022 while pleading with the Biden administration for help.
SOMERSET, Pa. - The Somerset Hospital Board of Directors has named current COO and senior vice president Andrew Rush as CEO. Rush began his career at Somerset Hospital in 2000 as the director of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Services.
